Neeraj Kaushal is Associate Professor at Columbia University School of Social Work. She is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Her research focus is on how policies and events affect the well-being of low-income families with special emphasis on immigrants. Her recent work includes studies on the effect of amnesty on the economic well-being of legalized immigrants, effect of the 1996 welfare reform on various aspects of immigrant well-being, health and health insurance trajectories of immigrants, measures of poverty in the US, and the effect of the September 11th terrorists’ attacks on Arabs and Muslims living in the US. She received her PhD in Economics from the City University of New York in 2002. Prior to that, she was a Senior Editor with The Economic Times, India’s largest financial newspaper.

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in September 2007.
