We are deeply sorry that Paul Welfens passed away on November 11, 2022 at age 65.

He was professor and chair of the Institute of Macroeconomic Theory and Politics at the University of Wuppertal, Germany. Furthermore he served as President of the European Institute for International Economic Relations (EIIW), Jean Monnet Chair in European Economic Integration at the University of Potsdam, and Fellow of the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) at Johns Hopkins University.

His recent research projects dealt with European Monetary Union, EU regional policies in Germany, innovation and employment, and employment and wage structures.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in October 2003.
