Laura Hospido is currently a Senior Economist at the Labour Market and Households Division, within the Spanish Economy Analysis Department, at the DG Economics of the Bank of Spain (Banco de España). Since January 2023 she is a BdE-CEMFI Research Associate.

From April 2024 to August 2025 she was an advisor to the Secretary of State for Economy and Business Support, at the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business. 

She received her Ph.D. in Economics in November 2007 at CEMFI (Centro de Estudios Monetarios y Financieros) and University of Santiago de Compostela for her dissertation "Heterogeneity and Dynamics in Individual Wages and Labour Market Histories". From September to December of 2006 she was a Graduate Affiliate Research Student at the Economics Department of UCL (University College London). In October 2007 she was awarded the Journal of Applied Econometrics JAE Dissertation Prize for her paper entitled "Modelling Heterogeneity and Dynamics in the Volatility of Individual Wages", and in June 2012 the Young Researchers ALdE Prize for her paper entitled "The Cycle of Earnings Inequality: Evidence from Spanish Social Security Data" (joint work with Stéphane Bonhomme).

Her main research interests include earnings dynamics and wage inequality, labour supply and labour mobility, gender economics, and financial competences. Her research has been published in the Economic Journal, Journal of Applied Econometrics, Journal of Human Resources, Labour Economics, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Quantitative Economics, and Review of Economics and Statistics, among others.

She is also part of the team in charge of the new Survey of Financial Competences (ECF), a joint initiative of the Banco de España and the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores under the Financial Education Plan with the aim of measuring the financial competences of the adult population in Spain.

She joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in August 2006 and became a Research Fellow in January 2013.
