I am a development economist with the Sustainability and Infrastructure unit in the Development Research Group at the World Bank. My research spans three topics:

  • Rural electrification and energy markets in Africa, with a focus on estimating demand fundamentals and understanding how decentralized energy markets can work alongside traditional grid electricity to meet energy access goals and to make energy work for economic growth. I co-lead the Energy in Africa Initiative.

  • Women entrepreneurs in low-income countries, focusing on non-market constraints including intrahousehold decision-making, childcare, intimate partner violence, and social norms that prevent women from starting and growing productive enterprises, as well as the role of income from microenterprises in the economic portfolios of low-income households. I am an affiliate of the Center for Research on Women in Jobs.

  • Barriers to climate adaptation in the private sector in low-income countries.

Prior to joining the World Bank I was a postdoctoral scholar with the King Climate Action Initiative. I received my PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from UC Berkeley.
