Asadullah Niaz Asadullah received his masters and doctoral degrees in Economics from Oxford University. Currently, he is a lecturer at the Department of Economics, Reading University. He has previously held positions at Oxford University and Dhaka University.

His research interests include development economics, economics of education and labor economics. Current research draws upon data from South Asia and focuses on issues such as the quality of Islamic faith schools, the identification of peer effects in schooling outcomes, intergenerational economic mobility and the impact of conditional cash transfers on female schooling. His publication record includes Applied Economics, Applied Economics Letters, Economics of Education Review, Education Economics, Journal of Asian Economics.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in September 2007.
