Holger Bonin is head of the department "Labour Markets, Human Resources and Social Policy" at ZEW, and Professor of Labor Market and Social Policy at the University of Kassel.
2000-2007 he worked at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), Bonn, first as Research Associate, and since 2003 as Senior Research Associate and Deputy Director of the programme area "Evaluation of Labor Market Policies".
Holger has vast experience as a scientific advisor to institutions including the European Commission, the UNDP, and several Ministries in Germany. The focus of his academic research is applied empirical economics. In particular, he investigates labour supply, wage and employment rigidities, the economic impact of demographic change and migration, and individual risk preferences.
Holger studied quantitative economics at the Universities of Heidelberg and Kiel. From 1996 to 1999 he was research fellow at the University of Freiburg where he received a doctoral degree in economics for his work on the theory and practice of generational accounting.
