Suedekum Jens Suedekum is Professor of Economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Mercator School of Management), where he holds a chair for Microeconomics and International Trade. Suedekum studied economics at the University of Göttingen and at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Born in 1975, he received a PhD from University of Göttingen in 2003. From 2003-2007 he has been Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessor) at the University of Konstanz. He is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Emplyoment Research (IAB) and faculty member of the Ruhr Graduate School of Economics (RGSE).

His current research focuses on international trade with heterogeneous firms, new economic geography, the determinants of spatial agglomeration and cross-border mergers. He has published in journals such as Journal of Urban Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Journal of Economic Geography, Canadian Journal of Economics, Labour Economics, Public Choice, and others.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in December 2004.
