Gustavo Canavire-Bacarreza is an applied microeconomist. He is Poverty and Equity Economist at the World Bank, a member of the Bolivian Academy of Economic Sciences, an affiliated professor at Universidad Privada Boliviana. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Economics from Georgia State University, an Advanced Studies Certificate in International Economic Policy Research from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, and a B.A. (Licenciatura) in Economics from Universidad Católica Boliviana.

His main research interests are labor markets and development, poverty, applied econometrics, public finance, and international macroeconomics.

He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in August 2008 and became a Research Fellow in January 2013.
