Marcelo Bergolo is a Professor of Economics at the Instituto de Economia (IECON), Department of Economics, Universidad de La República, Uruguay. He obtained his PhD in Economics in October 2014 from Universidad de La Plata, Argentina. Prior to starting his PhD, he worked at the Center for Distributive, Labor, and Social Studies (CEDLAS), where he is currently a Research Fellow. He is also a research affiliate/associate (NIVEL 2) at the National Agency for Research and Innovation (ANII) - Uruguay.

His research interests are Public Economics, Labor Economics, and Development Economics. His work focuses on tax and transfer policies in developing countries from an empirical perspective.

Marcelo joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in May 2016 and became IZA Fellow in November 2021.
