Laura Argys is Professor of Economics and Associate Dean for Research and Creative Activities at the University of Colorado Denver and a Research Fellow at the CU Boulder Population Program. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics and a certificate in demography from the University of Colorado.

Professor Argys' research focuses on policies addressing education, family and health issues. Her early work examines the impact of U.S. child support policies on child well-being as measured by cognitive and behavioral development, financial support, and interactions between nonresident fathers and their children. Her other work focuses on the effect of peers on adolescent behaviors including educational outcomes, health behaviors such as substance use and risky sexual activity and delinquent activities. More recently Laura has examined the impact of business cycles and labor market conditions on health behaviors and changes in immigrant behaviors.

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in 2011.
