We are deeply sorry that Donal O’Neill, Professor of Economics at NUI Maynooth, passed away on October 10, 2023.

He obtained his Ph.D from the University of Iowa in 1993. He published articles examining the impact of labour market reform on unemployment, the determinants of inequality across countries, the gender and racial wage gap and the modelling and measurement of intergenerational mobility. His research has been published in the the American Statistician, the European Journal of Health Economics, Economica, Economic Journal, Economics of Education Review, Economics and Human Biology, IZA journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Economic Inequality, Journal of Human Resources, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Labour Economics, Oxford Economic Papers and the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics. He was also involved in numerous research projects for government departments in Ireland and served as the labour market expert on the inaugural Low Pay Commission of Ireland from 2015-2018.

He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in June 2007.
