Ron Diris

Ron Diris is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics at Leiden University.

Before joining Leiden University in May 2022, Ron was a post-doctoral researcher at Maastricht University and KU Leuven. He obtained his PhD in Economics in 2012 at the School of Business and Economics of Maastricht University. His dissertation (‘The Economics of the School Curriculum’) analyses the causal effects of educational institutions (tracking, school starting ages, grade retention) on skill formation and wages. During his PhD, Ron was a short-stay visiting scholar at the University of Chicago, and collaborated there on a research project on the fostering of cognitive and non-cognitive skills.
His research interests are mainly in the field of the economics of education and labour economics, with a central focus on how human capital can be fostered in education and the work place, and how it subsequently affects key life outcomes.

Ron Diris joined IZA as a Research Fellow in March 2022.
