Murat Demirci is Associate Professor of Economics at Koç University. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Virginia in 2017.
His research centers on applied microeconomics, with a particular focus on migration and education. He studies high-skill migration and international student mobility, refugee migration, and human capital formation in developing countries.
His recent work examines the effects of visa policies and political populism on international student mobility, the labor market and educational effects of immigration, refugee integration in employment and child health, the cyclicality of school enrollment, and the determinants of early childhood development.
He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in March 2025.
