Mahreen is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics at the University of Exeter. She received her PhD in economics from the University of Kent and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Development Economics at the University of Oxford.

Her research explores the impact of social protection programs on household welfare and interventions to enhance women's economic participation and empowerment using field experiments in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
