Lourenço S. Paz is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University. His research examines how international trade shapes labor markets, productivity, informality and firm behavior in emerging economies. He has authored widely cited studies on trade liberalization, gender disparities, labor market adjustment and the impacts of Chinese import competition, with publications appearing in the Journal of International Economics, Journal of Development Economics, The Journal of Development Studies, Review of Development Economics and other leading outlets.

Paz has received competitive research grants from the Inter‑American Development Bank, the World Bank, UNU‑WIDER, and Brazil’s IPEA, among others. His work includes both theoretical and empirical contributions and often leverages large administrative datasets from Brazil and other developing economies.

He regularly presents at major international conferences—including the American Economic Association meetings—and has held visiting appointments in Japan and Hungary. In 2024–2025 he served as a Fulbright Scholar at Corvinus University of Budapest.

At Baylor, Paz also contributes to program leadership and curriculum development, serving as Director of the International Business Program.
