Fidan Ana Kurtulus received her A.B. from the University of Chicago, graduating with high honors in economics. She obtained her Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University in 2008. She is currently Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Wertheim Fellow at Harvard Law School.

Professor Kurtulus was a Visiting Professor at Boston University in 2014 and a Beyster Fellow at Rutgers University in 2010. Since 2011, she has been the Equal Employment Opportunity Topic Area Research Coordinator for the LERA Employment Policy Research Network.

In 2012, Professor Kurtulus was awarded an Early Career Research Award from the Upjohn Institute for Employment Research. She has won numerous other awards for her research, including a Huber Fellowship in 2011 and a Cabral Fellowship in 2015.

Professor Kurtulus' research explores a number of topics in labor economics, including the organization of workers within firms, participatory workplace practices and employee ownership, the causes and consequences of workplace diversity, and the long-term effects of affirmative action legislation on the U.S. employment landscape since the Civil Rights Movement. Her work has been published in outlets such as the Industrial and Labor Relations Review, Industrial Relations, and the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science.

She joined IZA as a Research Fellow in March 2012.
