Niels Westergård-Nielsen is Professor of Economics at the Aarhus School of Business in Denmark. He received his MSc (Econ) from the University of Aarhus in 1975 and his Ph.D. (lic.polit.) from the University of Copenhagen in 1982. He was Director of the Centre for Labour Market and Social Research (CLS) at the University of Aarhus from 1993 to 2001 and visiting scholar at the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
His major interests of research are wage formation at the individual and firm levels, unemployment and employment, matched worker and firm data, personnel economics and health economics.

Niels Westergård-Nielsen joined IZA as a Research Fellow in December 2000.
