Caterina Calsamiglia is an ICREA Research Professor at IPEG in Barcelona. She got her PhD from the Department of Economics at Yale University. She is a CEPR research affiliate and a member of the Human Capital and Economic Opportunity group led by Steven Durlauf and James Heckman at the University of Chicago.

Her research focuses on Public Economics with an emphasis on school choice, affirmative action and welfare economics. She has also worked on creating behavioral measures of non-cognitive skills to be used as formative and summative assessments in educational and labor market setups. Her work includes theoretical, experimental and empirical analysis. She has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Political Economy, the American Economic Review, the Journal of the European Economic Association, the International Economic Review or the Journal of Public Economics, among others.

She obtained and ERC Starting Grant in 2014 to work on understanding the importance of the design of school choice procedures for the educational landscape and to design assessment tools for non-cognitive skills in schools. She co-founded Pentabilities, a spinoff of her work on assessing and developing non-cognitive skills.

Caterina Calsamiglia joined IZA as a Research Fellow in April 2020.
