Jorge Luis García is an applied micro-economist working at the intersection of labor and development economics.

His work quantifies the economic fundamentals underlying the causal effects of major policies to inform their design and evaluation. He aims to identify policy-relevant parameters using modern micro-econometric methods and combining administrative, archival, experimental, and survey data. The subjects of his current projects are poor women and their children, either in the United States or developing countries. Commonalities in the development of children and the decision-making of poor individuals permit him to pursue a cohesive agenda, studying subjects who live in different contexts but face similar constraints and scarcities. He focuses on early childhood education, guaranteed employment and income, and population control.

Jorge Luis García joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in April 2023.
