Andrea Ichino is currently a professor of economics at the European University Institute, on leave from the university of Bologna. He graduated from Bocconi University in 1985 with a thesis on the effects of wage subsidies on unemployment. He completed his Ph.D. program at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1990 with a thesis on flexible compensation as a risk-sharing device. From 1990 to 1997, he taught and researched at IGIER, Bocconi University. From 1997 until 2007 he was a professor of economics at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy. He joined the EUI again in September 2013
His research interests include group interactions and network effects, the economics of education, gender economicsintergenerational social mobility and income inequality, rigidity and flexibility in European labor markets, labor law and economics, as well as family economics.
He has published widely in such journals as the American Economic Review, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, the Journal of the European Economic Association, the American Economic Journals, the Review of Economic and Statistics, the Journal of Labor Economics, the Journal of Public Economics, and the European Economic Review.
Andrea Ichino joined IZA as a Research Fellow in October 1999.
