Impact of demographic change on regional labor markets

As documented for several countries, the ageing of the population has a variety of effects on labor markets. While for Germany there are some studies that analyze the effects of demographic changes on firms (e.g. through changes in product demand), the effects on regional labor markets (e.g. labor income and employment opportunities of workers, economic development, application and development of new technologies) are less understood. In this project we want to close this gap and examine the effects of age structure changes on local labor markets and how this contributes to regional inequalities.
