Lakshmi Iyer

Lakshmi Iyer is an associate professor of economics and global affairs at the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, USA), holding joint appointments at the Department of Economics and the Keough School of Global Affairs.

Her research areas are development economics and political economy, with a strong focus on Asia. She has studied historical and current property rights institutions in several developing countries including India, Vietnam, China, and the Philippines. She is currently working on several projects related to the determinants and consequences of women’s political participation. She has published several papers in highly regarded journals in economics, including the American Economic Review, the Review of Economics and Statistics, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics and the Economic Journal.

Lakshmi Iyer joined IZA as a Research Fellow in March 2018.
