Research Fellow

Dr. Joseph Friedman is a Bulgarian born Israeli-American economist. He earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley, an MA in Economics and a B.A. in Economics and Statistics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He joined Temple University in 1985 and served as the Chairman of the Finance Department for four years. He is currently a professor at Temple’s Economics Department and an IZA Research Fellow.

Dr. Friedman held visiting appointments at the University of Pennsylvania, the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and Sofia University in Bulgaria, and was a faculty member at the Economics Department of Tel Aviv University.

Dr. Friedman published in journals such as American Economics Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Urban Economics and Financial Services Review. His book, The Economics of Housing Vouchers, was published by Academic Press.

Before moving to academia he held research positions at the Rand Corporation, Abt Associates, Inc., and the World Bank. His fields of interest include Applied Econometrics, Macroeconomics, Public Pensions and Migration.

Joseph Friedman joined IZA as a Research Fellow in June 2013.
