Richard V. Burkhauser

Cornell University

Richard V. Burkhauser is the Sarah Gibson Blanding Professor of Public Policy in the Department of Policy Analysis and Management at Cornell University and a Professorial Research Fellow in the Melbourne Institute at the University of Melbourne. He previously held Professorships in the Department of Economics at Vanderbilt University and at Syracuse University. His research focuses on how public policies affect the economic behavior and well-being of vulnerable populations - older workers, workers with disabilities, and low-skilled workers. He has published widely on these topics. His most recent work focuses on changes in levels and trends in wage earnings and household income, their distribution, and what accounts for these changes in the United States and other countries. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago.

From 2017 until 2019 he was a Member of the US Council of Economic Advisers.

Richard V. Burkhauser was an IZA Research Fellow from April 2014 until November 2017 and he joined IZA again as a Research Fellow in May 2019.
