Gianna Claudia Giannelli is Associate Professor of Economics and Labour Economics at the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Florence. She is the director of the Development Economics and LOcal System PhD program, a joint program of the University of Florence and the University of Trento.
She is research fellow of IZA (Bonn), and also associate researcher of CHILD (Centre for Household, Income, Labour and Demographic economics, Turin).

She has received her master degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and her Ph.D. in Economics from the European University Institute of Florence. She has been Research Fellow of the European University Institute collaborating to several research projects on welfare state and labour market regimes, household dynamics and economic inequality, microeconomic analysis of labour markets and consumer behaviour. She has been professor of Labour Economics in the Faculty of Political Science and in the faculty of Economics at the University of Florence.

She has written articles in Labour economics, Development Economics, Household Economics, Education Economics on topics regarding gender disparity, use of time and value of unpaid family work, child labour, math performance of children, migration and remittances, women's and children's welfare in developing countries, intergenerational transfers, employment duration and wages in the European countries, microeconometric applications to panel data.

She has published on international and Italian journals, such as Economic Development and Cultural Change ,the Journal of Development Studies, World Development, Economics of Education Review, International Migration Review, the Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Population Economics, Applied Economics

Her current research interests concern children's and women's welfare in developing countries, the evaluation of unpaid work in Europe,labour market reforms and employment duration, the labour market of developing countries, youth education, the participation of women to the labour market and the problem of child labour.

She joined IZA as Research Fellow in July 2000.
