We are deeply sorry that Don J. DeVoretz passed away on March 14, 2020. Until his death he was professor emeritus at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver.
Don J. DeVoretz obtained his doctorate in Economics from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 1968. He was the co-director of the Centre of Excellence for the Study of Immigration (1996-2007) and Professor of Economics at Simon Fraser University (1968-2007). DeVoretz held visiting appointments at Duke University, University of Ibadan (Nigeria), University of the Philippines, University of Wisconsin, and the Norwegian School of Economics. He was named the Willi Brandt Professor in 2004 at IMER, Malmö University.

Don DeVoretz's main research interests included the economic impact of citizenship on immigrant labor market outcomes and the brain circulation. He published over 70 articles in various international publications.

In April 1998, Don DeVoretz joined IZA as a Research Fellow. He contributed extensively to the activities of our network program area on migration and labor mobility.
