Working time reduction

In a pro and con op-ed piece, Hilmar Schneider opposes the idea of introducing a four-day workweek. Such an artificial working time reduction would create organizational challenges for many firms while inducing more workers to search for a second job. In order to maintain a high standard of living in the long run, Schneider argues, Germany would rather need to increase per capita working hours, which are actually relatively low compared to the U.S. or Japan.
