Organizational Change

Shaping the future of labor

The future of labor starts today. IZA studies structural changes in the workplace and develops concepts for employers, employees and policymakers to actively shape these changes.

We analyze, for example, the opportunities and challenges of digitalization, a phenomenon that is fundamentally changing our traditional notion of occupations, work organization and employer-employee relations. We aim to articulate the institutional setting that the digital society needs in order to create employment and career opportunities while at the same time sustaining the social protection of workers.

Meanwhile, people’s attitudes towards life and work, and what constitutes fair pay, are also changing. IZA research seeks to help firms devise strategies to create profitable jobs that cater to the demands and desires of today’s workforce.

Our current work focuses on:

  • The "Gig Economy"
  • Work 4.0
  • Alternatives to mini-jobs
