Ira N. Gang Is a Professor of Economics at Rutgers University, where he has been since 1986. He obtained his doctorate in Economics from Cornell University in 1983. Before Rutgers he taught at Pitzer College and Claremont Graduate School and at Duke. In 1990 and 1994 he visited Germany as an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow. Other research visits brought him to Sri Lanka, India, Tajikistan,among other places. Since April 1998, he is a research fellow of IZA, Bonn.
Ira Gang is Associate Editor of the Journal of Population Economics and the India Growth and Development review. He is a co-editor of Economics-ejournal.org and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Market Integration, the Journal of International Trade & Economic Development, and the Journal of International Trade and Economic Development. He has published in Journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Economics Letters, The Journal of Development Economics,Industrial and Labor Relations Review, the Journal of Economic Theory, and Economic Development and Cultural Change. Recent research interests include both theoretical and empirical issues in developing and transition economies, with particular attention to labor markets. In the area of migration economics his work has concentrated on the labor market impacts of immigration in Europe and the U.S., on immigrant assimilation, and on the political economy of immigration.
