Thijs van Rens is assistant professor at CREI and Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and a research affiliate at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London. He studied economics at the University of Amsterdam and Princeton University, where he obtained his Ph.D. degree in June 2005. Thijs’s research interests are on the intersection of labor economics and macroeconomics, addressing questions like: “Why do so many workers lose their jobs in a recession?”; “Why does it take such a long time before the unemployment rate goes down after the economy recovers?”; “Why do consumption expenditures vary much less across people than earnings?” and “Can education explain differences in inequality as well as growth across countries?”.
He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in November 2007. |
