Toni Pierenkemper is professor emeritus and former chair of Economic and Social History at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne.
He studied economics and sociology at the Universitaet Muenster and the London School of Economics, graduated in 1972 and 1975 and obtained his Ph.d. in economics in 1977.
After his qualification as a professor in 1985 with a thesis about “Employees and the Labour Market in the German Empire”, he taught at different universities (Muenster, Saarbrücken, Frankfurt/Main, Eichstaett-Ingolstadt, Breslau and Washington D.C.). Since 1997 he has been appointed to the Universitiy of Cologne.
Toni Pierenkemper is author of several books and editor of a series of introductory literature “Economic History”, “Einführung in die Unternehmensgeschichte”. Together with Richard Tilly he recently published the textbook “The German economy during the 19th century”.
His specific areas of research interest include business history, regional industrialization and history of labor markets and consumption.
He joined IZA as a Research Fellow in May 2007. |
