IZA cooperates closely with the University of Bonn Department of Economics in the fields of research and education. IZA Director Klaus F. Zimmermann is full professor of economics at the University. On a regular basis, IZA also offers lectures and seminars in labor economics, experimental and behavioral economics, microeconometrics, and other fields. IZA staff members also supervise master's and doctoral theses.
In 1998, with a grant from Deutsche Post World Net, the Bonn Graduate School of Economics (BGSE) was established to continue the rich tradition of graduate education at the University of Bonn. IZA plays a central role in the BGSE doctoral education program. The institute participates in the selection and supervision of Ph.D. students. Those who write their dissertation under IZA supervision work as research affiliates at the institute.
IZA and the University of Bonn also jointly organize the weekly Bonn Economics Research Seminar. This form of cooperation is a good example of a fruitful relationship between public and private sector research and educational institutions.
