About the Workshop |
The push and pull factors of legal migration are by now well-documented and have been shown to exhibit a number of key features across both time and countries. But legal migration flows can also be seen as but one option among a continuum of possible alternatives available to migrants and facilitators of migration, including illegal migration, smuggling, trafficking, and other forced internal / international displacement of people due to economic / political forces, and natural disasters. From a policy perspective, national / multinational migration policy reforms aimed primarily at one form of migration or another can likewise have important cross-cutting effects on legal and illicit flows. |
This workshop aims at taking stock of theoretical and empirical research on both legal and illicit migration and migration policies. This call for papers welcome both theoretical and empirical contributions in the following broad topics in country-level or cross-country perspectives: causes, consequences of legal and illegal migration flows; voluntary and forced international displacement of individuals such as through trafficking, economic / political shocks, and natural disasters; national and multinational policy experiences, options, and adoption patterns. |
