About the Workshop

The aim of the workshop is to bring together leading scholars and emerging researchers working on topics related to entrepreneurship research. We invite contributions from various interdisciplinary backgrounds, as well as theoretical, empirical, laboratory, and field experiment-based research. This year’s workshop will focus on entrepreneurship in developed and developing economies and will be held at the Georgetown Center for Economic Research (GCER) in Washington D.C. The workshop will be followed by a policy panel on “Entrepreneurship in Developing Economies“ on Thursday evening to which all participants are invited to attend.

Examples of research topics of the workshop are:

  • Recent trends in entrepreneurship
  • Demographic aspects of entrepreneurship
  • Public policy measures to foster entrepreneurship
  • The process of firm entry, growth, survival and exit
  • Changing demographic implications for entrepreneurship
  • Entrepreneurship and migration
  • Characteristics, skills and motivation of entrepreneurs
  • Decision making processes and occupational choice models
  • Risk and time preferences of entrepreneurs
  • Remuneration of entrepreneurs

The keynote lecture will be delivered by Antoinette Schoar, Professor of Entrepreneurship at the MIT Sloan School of Management and IZA Research Fellow. Her research interests span from entrepreneurship and financing of small businesses in emerging markets to household finance and intermediation in retail financial markets. She has published numerous papers in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economic, the Quarterly Journal of Economics, or the Journal of Economic Perspectives. Her paper "The Effects of Corporate Diversification on Productivity" won the 2003 Journal of Finance Brattle Prize. She also received the prestigious Ewing Marion Kauffman Prize Medal for Distinguished Research in Entrepreneurship in 2009.
